President Bush Aces News Conference

In what some are calling the high point of his presidency, George W. Bush today for the first time correctly pronounced the word “nuclear.” In a news conference with reporters in the White House Rose Garden, the President declared that Iran would never have “nuclear weapons,” pronouncing the word as “new-clear” rather than his customary “nuke-u-ler.” After a moment of dumfounded silence, reporters rose to their feet and applauded the President.

It has been rumored that Professor Henry Higgins, a visiting scholar from Oxford University, has been tutoring the President on voice and elocution. The White House denied this report and refused reporters’ requests to see White House entry logs, claiming the President’s executive privilege to receive remedial education without interference.

The President beamed with confidence as he continued his remarks. Yet his comment that “the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain,” left reporters scratching their heads.
